Paxton JonesRev. Dr. Paxton Jones

The Rev. Dr. Paxton Jones became Regional Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Kansas on May 1, 2007. He once described himself as a TexaKan, a native Texan who had adopted Kansas as his home. Born and raised in Texas, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degree from Texas Christian University and Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth and also married a native Texan, Janie, in 1972. However, they moved to Kansas in 1977 and it's truly been their home ever since.

 

During the 21 years prior to being called to the regional church staff in 1998, he pastored congregations in Topeka and Salina while serving the regional and general church in a variety of leadership capacities including: district representative to the Regional Board, Third Vice-Moderator, Moderator, Ministry Commission chair [now Clergy Care Ministry], and a member of the General Board and Administrative Committee. From 1998 to 2007, he served as Deputy Regional Minister and Treasurer as well as the Central and High Plains District Minister.

  As Regional Minister, his responsibilities now include:

·         Care and nurture of congregations and pastors in the Region

·         Consultation with congregations in search of ministerial leadership

·         Oversight of regional personnel, finances [including the Permanent Fund] and property

·         Representation and communication between congregations and the wider church

·         Relations with ecumenical partners

·         District Minister for Northeast District

·         Staff consultant for the Transformation Priority Ministry and Resources Ministry

He also serves as a Trustee of Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, OK and of the Tennyson Center for Children in Denver, CO.
