The playground equipment at The Disciples Center was made possible in part by a $4,500 'Pancake Day' grant from the General Conference of Disciples Men. Funds for such grants are generated from pancake dinners held annually by Disciples Men groups throughout the country. One stipulation of the grant was that our Disciples Men had to install the equipment, which was accomplished through the efforts of Dick Swisher and the men of the South Central District. |

Kansas Disciples Men Kansas Regional Disciples Men Fall Retreat Disciples Men Create Endowment Fund "Please take a dollar out of your wallet and hand it to me," instructed Roger Poage, President of the General Conference of Disciples Men, to the men gathered at Camp Tawakoni for the fall Disciples Men's Retreat. Without knowing why they were doing it, everyone present complied. When they learned what they were being asked to do, some of the men dug even deeper in their pockets. What they had just done was establish a Disciples Men Endowment Fund in Kansas! Modeled after the existing endowment at the General Conference, earnings from the fund will be used to help fund future men's ministries in the region. In approving its creation, the men set a minimun level of $11,000 in the endowment fund before any monies are dispersed. In addition to the initial donations received at the retreat, at least one of the men present went home that weekend and took a similar collection from his congregation. Is it possible that the men will reach the fund's minimum goal within two years? It is ... with your help! [Contributions may be sent to the Regional Office in Topeka (2914 SW MacVicar, 66611) marked Disciples Men Endowment Fund.] |
